Strength: The magnet has to be strong enough to hold the magnet to the surface you intend to monitor. For example, let’s say the sensor weighs 91 grams (3.2 oz.) and it can measure up to 40 g’s, one would want a hold down strength of at least 80 times the weight of the sensor. Size: Magnets need to be big enough to connect with the surface with a sure fit, that means the sensor and the magnet shouldn’t wobble on the surface. On curved surfaces, we have found that a magnet that has a parallel configuration, can engage the surface of the machine with a sure fit. If the magnet is flat, it has to fit on a flat surface, and it needs to be small enough to fit.
Material: Do not attach vibration sensors with magnetic mounts to rusty surfaces. You want a sure connection between the magnetic mount and surface you’re trying to observe.
