5500 Portable Vibration Meter - Probe Extension

The 5500 Portable Vibration Meter Probe Extension can test not only what’s easily accessible, but all the areas that are nearly impossible to reach by hand. While it does add mass to the systems, as well as rigidity, using the shortest extension probe will be the best way to minimize vibration measurement errors. At Metrix, we provide a 10-inch (254 mm) probe extension.

You should also account for:

  • Temperature: Vibration probes used in extremely high heat can easily be damaged, which can lead them to either misreport data or fail altogether. Be sure not to exceed the temperature limits of the 5500 Portable Vibration Meter.
  • Weight: Metrix uses an aluminum probe extension to provide rigidity and minimize the added mass to prevent throwing the measurements off.

  • Frequency: The frequency range can sometimes interfere with the vibration measured. It’s important to ensure the probe extension is fully engaged with the measurement surface. In high frequency applications, it may be difficult to keep the probe extension engaged.

Vibration probe extensions are effective when measuring vibrations in tight locations. Be aware of the above three factors so you don’t compromise the accuracy of the 5500 Portable Vibration Meter.
